Not Spring Not Winter is 319 Scholes' annual curated exhibition of recent works by students from the Interactive Telecommunications Program at New York University’s Tisch School of Arts. This exhibition was a collaboration between me, Jack Kalish and Ivana Basic.

The third iteration of Not Spring, Not Winter focused on revealing places hidden, internal, or private, gradually exposing what lies beneath the surface for the viewer who is willing to wait. Featuring performance, video, interactive moving image and sculpture, the works in Not Spring, Not Winter employ modes of repetition and duration, examining the shifting division between internal and external properties – the “here” and “there.”

testsite, a project of Austin-based "speculative non-profit initiative" Fluent~Collaborative, situates itself between an exhibition space, an open studio, a temporary residency program and a private home. Participants, usually a writer and a visual artist drawn from far afield or close to home, are invited to create parallel experimental projects though a shared conversation. testsite presents these projects as they are germinating, or at a stage of fruitful exploration and healthy doubt integrated within the corners, shelves, walls and spaces of an intimate space.

Serving as the space's curator during 2008-2009, I developed long-term projects with a number of internationally recognized artists, curators and writers, including Matthew Drutt & Matthew Ronay, Harper Montgomery & Temporary Services and Elizabeth Dunbar & Sheila Pepe, among others.

Concurrently, I served as Associate Editor for testsite's sister project, ...might be good, a contemporary art e-journal that reaches over 8,000 international readers each month.

Most recently, I worked with Brooklyn-based Eve Bailey, who is an artist who uses a wide variety of mediums to explore the human form in movement. I designed this site for her by customizing the incredible Wordpress theme for artists, WPFolio. Eve and I worked to create a product uniquely her own, and I reworked much of the existing CSS to suit her needs.

I am always available for hire to do artist portfolios: Wordpress, custom, or otherwise. My crossover expertise in both the art world and in web design allows me to have flexible knowledge of both worlds, and I am also available to assist with artist statements or general personal branding.

Last winter, I was approached by my grad school's administration to take on a big project-- help one of the professors in our program at NYU take home a student elected teaching prize, the David Payne Carter Teaching Award. Student leaders from each department at Tisch School of the Arts are tasked with choosing a favorite professor and creating something creative they feel represents the teacher's contribution to their department. The Dean of Tisch votes on the final winner.

After going to the student body, my pal and partner on the project, Natalie Be'er, and I saw the clear winner: the amazingly talented programmer and artist Dan Shiffman. Dan had been nominated multiple times before but never taken home the prize, which is highly competitive across all the departments at Tisch.

We made the second iteration of "danshiffmanisawesome.com" with one goal in mind: to very simply convey both Dan's wonderful sense of humor as well as his incredible ability to convey complex ideas to his students. And Dan finally won the coveted award! Totally thrilling. Check out the website here.

Circulatory System is a Texas-based curatorial endeavor founded by me and Morgan Coy in the summer of 2009. We sought to strengthen the dialogue between diverse communities across the state of Texas, with a specific interest in connecting Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio. We travelled around by converted school bus, a mode of transportation that allows for endless creative opportunities. Circulatory System continues from time to time today, acting as a catalyst for both local and regional conversation, connecting active artists, curators and writers with a particular passion for experimental video, performance and installation.

‘Stopover on a Quiet Street’
By Diana Huang, Kate Watson and Emily Webster
Produced for ITP's Big Screens, 2011

‘Stopover on a Quiet Street’ peers into the personal details of everyday experiences by removing the facade of three households on a single suburban block. The story unfolds through silent narrative vignettes that take place at dusk. The architectural exterior has been peeled from each home revealing residents proceeding through their daily lives. Through this voyeuristic lens, we are able to capture all ranges of emotion between family, neighbors, friends and self — joy, uncertainty, grief, love.

Created for the IAC Center’s 120 foot horizontal video screen, we’ve created an immersive experience for the viewer where tiny moments in our characters’ lives are played out on a massive scale. The audience simultaneously sees both the “big picture” and the private, intimate details. Events of the environment that even the subjects of the story are not aware of are captured on the screen, bringing the viewer into an active role in a world filled with rich, vivid detail.

Special thanks to:
Our actors, Eleanor Wilson, Geoff Mansfield, Hillary Hanson, Matthew Hagan, Diana Canterbury, Chloe Scharf, Laura Scharf, Booch O’Connell and Madison Sacchiero.

To Susan Jones, Giacomo Mirabella, Jim Tottis, Eddie J. Bartolomei, Nancy Hechinger and the Museum of the City of New York for graciously providing access to the historic Stettheimer Dollhouses.

And lastly, a very special thank you to Lauren George, Eden Cayen, Gabriella Levine and Conor McCourt for the donation of their beloved dollhouses and miniatures, without which we could not have created this piece.

Technical Assistance by Spike McCue and Ivana Basic.
